What does it really mean to be “Green” ?

  • It is a fine balance that takes into account many values. You and your organization have to determine your own commitment to:
    • nature
    • economy
    • humanity
    • sustainability
    • social responsibility

  • minimizing carbon footprints in toledo LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a designation created by The U.S. Green Building Council. This Council is a nonprofit organization committed to expanding sustainable building practices.
  • LEED certification verifies that a building project is “environmentally responsible, profitable and a healthy place to live and work.” For more information on LEED visit: www.usgbc.org
  • A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact our activities have on the environment, and, in particular, on climate change. The term carbon footprint relates to the amount of greenhouse gases produced in our day-to-day lives through the burning of fossil fuels (as needed for electricity, heating and transportation etc.). Technically, the carbon footprint is a measurement of all greenhouse gases we individually produce and has units of ton of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Dunbar Mechanical's LEED Certified Professionals

Dunbar Mechanical, Inc. supports your efforts to improve energy efficiencies while furthering our mission "to be Customer Driven, Fair and Predictably Excellent, with a commitment to employee growth". This is a powerful combination resulting in many benefits for all of us, especially our Manager of Commissioning and Testing Services, Kevin Armstrong, LEED AP. Kevin’s registration as a certified professional by the LEED accrediting organization is part of Dunbar’s strategic plan to continue to provide outstanding services to our clients.

Additionally, Kevin is a Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP). This certification confirms Kevin’s capabilities to verify and enhance the productivity of buildings operating systems. This certification was one of the first awarded in the United States by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Kevin had to meet strict eligibility requirements and pass an extensive exam. Kevin is also a Qualified Commissioning Process Provider (QCP). This certification is awarded by the College of Engineering at The University of Wisconsin-Madison, after successfully completing their commissioning coursework.

Kent Smith recently renewed his LEED Green Associate Certification with 15 hours of continuing education approved by the GBCI. Kent has been with us since 1997 and currently serves as a project manager and estimator for commercial and institutional projects. He has been involved with construction of the Mercy Hospital of Willard, Fisher Titus Medical Center Radiology Renovation, and Bryan Hospital Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers. He has also been busy with Fisher Titus Medical Center Surgery renovation and multiple projects for the Mercy Healthcare system's many campuses.

Specifically, Dunbar can:

  • Help you reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Ensure your mechanical systems work at peak efficiency to minimize both your costs and the overall impact on the environment.
  • Test your mechanical systems to determine their operating effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Balance the air flow and temperatures throughout your operation.
  • Recommission your equipment to ensure the entire system is functioning at peak performance for your current building layout
    and requirements.
  • Evaluate your energy usage to determine peak demand times and identify methods to stabilize demand/costs.
  • Provide Preventive Maintenance programs which identify every component in your mechanical system to ensure optimum maintenance for efficiencies. Something as seemingly minor as  replacing filters in a timely manner can make a big difference in your overall energy consumption.
  • Maximize your savings potential through Building Automation and Controls services to turn lights off in unoccupied spaces, regulate day/night temperature fluctuations and more.
  • Assist with cost comparisons and long-term operational efficiencies as we work with engineers to design mechanical operations for energy efficiency and today’s Green Building designations aimed at minimizing your carbon footprint.
